The other night I headed over to the Czar Bar here in Kansas City with a few friends to catch a town favorite, She’s a Keeper. I had heard the names of the openers before, but couldn’t remember hearing any of their music. I was late arriving and only caught the last of Attic Wolves, a KC local that you’ll soon be hearing more about from me – but I got to catch the entire Jack and the Bear set, and it was fantastic.
I really think they stole the show. This crew can entertain. If you’re a fan of River City Extension, David Wax Museum, or could enjoy Arcade Fire playing a parade through New Orleans – then you’ll find a home in Jack and the Bear. I can’t find any tracks online that accurately capture the extreme energy of that show – there was jumping, yelling, stomping, chest hair sweaters, and piggy back rides. It was really fantastic.
The gang is on a “never-ending tour” that will find it’s way to California where they will be recording a new album in the same studio that has tracked Tom Waits before. In the meantime, they’ve got some tunes up on bandcamp. If they come through your town, I highly urge you to go.
